"Behind the Scenes" is a side-product of my current project (started in late 2024) Once I Believed, which explores my Chinese identity within the history of colonial influence. It is a staged self-portrait photo project that requires lots of assistance, such as a helping hand for pressing the shutter, stage setting and props making. I could not have finished my photographs without the help of my all-time assistant, Arrow, who is also my partner in real life.

By creating this book, I want to honor his hard work since he always hides himself behind the camera when working for me. I would love to take this opportunity to salute to all art assistants in the world, who spend so many efforts in their jobs. Without them, all amazing artworks would not have been brought to live.
